ISIDE WILSON VETTORI

Born 2001

"I'm currently in my second year studying technical physics, and I work at a Stockholm gallery every other weekend. I draw frequently, I paint when I get the time, and I've experimented with various media. Drawing is relaxing and comforting, and it's also a place where I can arrange thoughts, like elaborating on them in another language. I always carry small notebooks around with me, with different notebooks for different themes or techniques.

For many years, I've tended to draw the people or things in my immediate surroundings. But more recently I've had the urge to explore my imagination, my memories, by drawing things that aren't in front of me – things I've made up, my own worlds like Doughnuts in Jellyfish. I also incorporate the things I learn at school – things I read about or think about – into my drawings."

THE SELECTION COMMITTEE'S MOTIVATION:
Iside Wilson Vettori observes and notes down her surroundings as they appear, both outside and inside, using black gel pen and coloured pastel sticks in various small notebooks. The folded centres of the pages appear to constitute a passage for time and reality. Quick portraits are followed by waterside cityscapes which, in turn, are replaced by dreamlike visions. Each day's drawing has its own date, but on the margins of the paper you anticipate both the coming drawings and the previous ones.
